NEW REPORT FINDS THAT ONE IN EVERY FIVE ELEMENTARY STUDENTS IS CHRONICALLY ABSENT

Last year, more than 90,000 children in grades K through 5 missed at least one month of school, totaling one-fifth of all elementary students. In high poverty neighborhoods, this number approached one-third of primary grade students. “Strengthening Schools by Strengthening Families" looks into the causes of the problem and possible solutions. FEET IN 2 WORLDS ON LATINO USA

As Feet in Two Worlds journalist Martina Guzman reports, both the Democratic and Republican presidential campaigns are vying for the crucial Latino swing vote. NEW EDITION OF CHILD WELFARE WATCH FINDS NYC RELIES MORE HEAVILY ON FOSTER FAMILIES

"Homes Away from Home: Foster parents for a new generation," finds that
foster parenting is harder than ever, as more teens are placed with foster families instead of in group homes and institutions. This report investigates how foster parents are adjusting to their increasingly demanding role, and how the system is struggling to meet their needs. Download PDF here.
